EYE Divine Cybermancy: Workin’ hard for the brosephs

TWO GUNS. ONE MAN. AW YEAH.

It's hard to do the backwards E while typing reviews

The premise of Divine Cybermancy seemed like an extremely customizable version of Borderlands, so of course I picked it up and gave it a shot.  How could I not?  The little demo videos promised neigh endless amounts of solutions to every problem, from using magic to create infinite copies of yourself to overwhelm your foes, to being a badass soldier with a chain gun, to a tech head summoning flying combat drones.  You could be a stealth assassin, a bad ass sniper, and even just run up to groups of enemies and make the stabs.  It was a no-fail, winning solution.  Oh, and you can play it with your friends.

But all of that quickly devolved once I started playing when I realized A) I have no idea what the hell anyone is talking about, B) the game is a might touchy and somewhat glitchy, and C) the learning curve is so steep you’ll have a heart attack before you get to the top of the hill

Resistance 3

Resistance is a series I fell into by accident, mostly because it was free.  An old co-worker of mine in electronics retail land went to one of those trade shows and brought back goodies for everybody in the department.  I was lucky in that I was the only person there who owned a PS3 at the time, so free game for me!  Resistance: Fall of Man was not a good game.  It dragged on too long, the shooting mechanics and level design were stale and mostly boring, but it did have one thing going for it: the story.  In the midst of World War 2, aliens show up in Europe and start an invasion, forcing military forces there to quit fighting each other and take out this new threat.  I love alternate history stuff so I was pretty bummed when the actual gameplay left me wanting.  I gave it one more chance in the form of Resistance 2.  That turned out to be a great idea because Resistance 2 was fantastic.  Varied level design and encounters, the alien race known as the Chimera invading America, and series protagonist Nathan Hale slowly succumbing to the virus that would turn him alien, but gaining super human abilities in the process.  Spoilers for Resistance 2 (and the first cinematic of 3, this is not a secret)!  As the previous game ended Hale was killed by one Joseph Capelli, a fellow American soldier who was an ally against the Chimera.  It wasn’t a betrayal though, it was because Hale was about to give in to the alien disease.  Making another game in a series after your hero is dead is a tough sell, but Resistance 3 surprises.  It’s different from both of the previous titles in terms of story and gameplay, and I think manages to almost outshine Resistance 2.  It’s nice to see something different!

Modern Warfare 2: Whaaaaaaat.

Okay, I suppose I’ll get this out there early, since I know how the first person shooter crowd usually goes.  I am bad at Modern Warfare 2.  It’s the truth, plain and simple.  On XBox Live I am no xXDarkAssassinXx, NoobPwner49, or SniperSaurusRex.  Though, come to think of it, that last one it pretty awesome.  How would the dinosaur use a sniper rifle with its tiny, ineffectual dino-claws?  Also, what would a dinosaur even need to assassinate in the first place?  Hmmm. Bioshock 2: You’re not my real dad!

I heard the announcement that there was going to be a Bioshock 2 with a wince and a fair amount of anxiety, dreading the return to Rapture just as much as I would dread seeing one of those awful Disney made-for-DVD sequels of their classic movies.  Uh, not that I have a soft spot for Disney movies or anything, shut up.  You don’t know me.

It really didn’t add up.  Bioshock ended tied up in a nice little ribbon on top of it, and I don’t know about you, but I got the feeling Rapture wouldn’t last much longer regardless of which ending you saw.  The dream was dead, all that was left was for the rest of the underwater city to realize it.  Plus, Bioshock was the first FPS game I played that really went above and beyond its genre, story wise, gameplay wise, and philosophically.
